The Malays call it bersubahat

So while I laud Dr Mahathir’s statement on complicity, I am just wondering whether he would say the same thing with regards to what he already knows about the IGP. Those police officers that signed those SDs are now in deep shit (Tatatertib is after them) while the underworld figures are on the run for their lives.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin

Finally, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is saying what I have been saying from way back (see the news report below). If you cover up a crime and protect the wrongdoers, you are regarded as an accomplice to the crime. You are as guilty as the criminal. This is also what Islam says and Malaysia is supposed to be a country headed by Muslim leaders who claim that Umno is the largest Islamic party in the world while Islam is the official religion of Malaysia.

In Islam, exposing the wrongdoers is mandatory. And it is even more mandatory if those wrongdoers walk in the corridors of power.

My Tok Guru says that it is not only haram (forbidden) for Muslims to drink liquor. It is also haram to participate in all activities involving liquor. You sell liquor, it is haram. You serve liquor, it is haram. You profit from liquor, it is haram. You issue a licence to sell liquor, it is haram. You tax liquor, it is haram. You are paid a salary from the profits or tax from liquor, it is haram. You store or stock liquor, it is haram.
In other words, it is haram as long as you allow it, abet it, profit from it, and whatnot. It is as good as you consuming liquor.

Muslims, in particular Malay Muslims, are very sensitive about the issue of liquor. Try to stock liquor in the bar in your house (if you are Muslim) and see how they respond. They would look at you as if you are suffering from leprosy. Unfortunately, this disgust is confined to only liquor and pork. They do not demonstrate the same disgust when it comes to other ‘evils’ that could be considered worse than liquor or pork.

That is the sad and sorry state of affairs of Malay Muslims.

The hand that kills is sinful. The hand that held down the person who was killed is sinful. The hand that supplied the weapon to kill is sinful. The hand that stood by to watch the killing is sinful. The hand that walked away without trying to prevent the killing is sinful. The hand that applauded the killing is sinful. The hand that remains silent about the killing is sinful. The hand that does not hate killing is sinful.

The Prophet Muhammad said, prevent (fight against) sin with your hands (act). If you are powerless to act, then prevent sin with your mouth (speak out against it). If you do not dare do all this then at least hate sin in your heart (the minimum requirement for a Muslim). But the person who only dares to hate sin in his/her heart but dares not do more than that is the sign of a person with very weak iman (faith), said the Prophet.

That is what the Prophet said. That is not what I said (well, I do say it as well but it is not an original quote from me).

When I was given a half dozen or so Statutory Declarations signed by police officers and members of the Chinese underworld implicating the IGP in the loan shark, prostitution, drugs and illegal gambling syndicate, I went to meet Dr Mahathir in his office to hand over the original and signed copies of those SDs. This is because I could not hand them to the then Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who would rather put me in jail than meet me.

After that I met two retired senior officers of the Special Branch, Datuk Baharum and Datuk Zulkilfy, for dinner in the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya. They wanted to know what was the story behind these SDs and I told them everything.

Not long after that, another two retired senior Special Branch officers contacted me and invited me to dinner. One of them was Datuk Yusof, the one-time head of the Terengganu Special Branch who wanted to detain me under the Internal Security Act back in 1981 but decided against it on the advise of ‘certain people’. He was the Sarawak Commissioner of Police just before he retired.

They too wanted to know the whole story. They told me they were going to meet the ex-IGP, Tun Haniff Omar, about this matter, so they wanted to know more before the meeting.

It seems, after I had given Dr Mahathir those SDs, he handed them to Tun Haniff for his attention. And that was why these two groups of retired Special Branch officers requested those meetings with me. I was told that Tun Haniff did in fact meet the IGP but the IGP told him to butt out. You are no longer the IGP, Tun Haniff was told, so stay out and don’t get involved.

Of course, that was the beginning of my many problems. After that the IGP made it his life’s mission to get me and lock me away for good.

So while I laud Dr Mahathir’s statement on complicity, I am just wondering whether he would say the same thing with regards to what he already knows about the IGP. Those police officers that signed those SDs are now in deep shit (Tatatertib is after them) while the underworld figures are on the run for their lives.

Yes, the whistleblowers are punished while the criminals walk free. So much for “Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat will be regarded as an accomplice if he stops people from exposing the wrongdoings of others, said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.”

It appears this only applies to opposition people and not to corrupt government supporters.

Dr M: Nik Aziz can be cited for complicity
PAS mursyidul am Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat will be regarded as an accomplice if he stops people from exposing the wrongdoings of others, said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said this in response to Nik Aziz’s call to former PKR leaders to stop exposing dirt on opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Covering up for someone who has done wrong is akin to being an accomplice,’’ he said.

On another matter, Dr Mahathir denied that his son Mokhzani had amassed wealth during his premiership.

“My son was never on the (billionaire) list when I was serving as Prime Minister,’’ he said.

He added that he never allowed his children to bid for government projects when he was in office.

Dr Mahathir said this in response to criticism levelled against him and Najib for “enriching” their relatives.

Dr Mahathir said Anwar had made his friends rich before he was ousted as deputy Prime Minister.

“One of Anwar’s friends has amassed RM230mil.

“Anwar also has a lot of money,” he claimed. -- The Star, 29 March 2010
