KUALA LUMPUR : Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who alleged that opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had sodomised him, will be the first witness to take the stand when the trial opens this afternoon.
Solicitor-General II Datuk Mohamed Yusof Zainal Abiden, who leads the prosecution team, confirmed this when contacted by Bernama.
He said the prosecution had listed more than 20 witnesses in the case which will be heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court before Justice Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah.
Anwar, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor and Permatang Pauh MP, is accused of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful at Unit 11-5-1, Kondominium Desa Damansara, Jalan Setiakasih, Bukit Damansara, between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.
He is charged under section 377B of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping, if convicted.
The trial begins 18 months after Anwar was first charged in August 2008. – Bernama
