Anwar: I will explain to Speaker and show proof about Apco

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his allegations that Apco Worldwide used to consult for former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak in 1999.

He said he will explain this to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.

“This explanation will be based on the Prime Minister’s response on March 18,” Anwar said, referring to Najib Tun Razak's written confirmation that Apco Worldwide was appointed to provide overall communications services.

The government had ordered Anwar to substantiate his statement that the 1Malaysia concept mirrored a One Israel programme structured by Apco.

But the US-based firm has since denied having any links with the “One Israel” campaign.

Following this denial, Barisan Nasional's Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan accused Anwar of misleading the House, citing Standing Orders 36 (12) and 37(1) in Parliament yesterday.

“I will explain because Apco was in fact in Israel at the time. It has been paid to deny its involvement, but I will show the facts,” Anwar said in regard to Apco’s denial.

“I will also demand to know who Apco is, how much the government has paid it and Apco’s role in communications (services) and what kind of advice is it giving to the ministries, especially the strategic ministries,” Anwar said.
