MI : Ku Li rubbishes Zahrain defection charge

By G. Manimaran

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 19 — Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has denied he was one of eight Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers who had wanted to jump to PKR in its Sept 16 Putrajaya takeover bid two years ago.
“That is not right,” the Kelantan prince said last night when commenting on Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Hashim’s revelation in Parliament earlier in the day.
Zahrain is now an Independent MP after he walked out of PKR last month. He has since attacked his former party to the delight of lawmakers from the ruling BN.
“If I want to join any party, I won’t wait for him to announce it. I’m a man,” Tengku Razaleigh (picture) told reporters here after an oil royalty dialogue.
The Gua Musang Umno division chief said he was unsure if Zahrain was lying but “I’m sure I’m not involved” in the issue.
Asked if he will take legal action against the former Penang PKR chief, Tengku Razaleigh asked: “For what?”
Apart from him, Zahrain named Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh (BN-Kalabakan), Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (BN-Kimanis), Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan), Datuk Chua Soon Bui (SAPP-Tawau) and Datuk Eric Majimbun (SAPP-Sepanggar).
Both the MPs from SAPP sit at the bench with other independents after the party quit the BN coalition in September 2008, but are not formally with the Pakatan Rakyat pact.
The others named were Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (BN-Batu Pahat) and Datuk Seri Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar (BN-Jerantut) and an unnamed Dewan Rakyat speaker.
Zahrain listed them when continuing the debate on the Royal Address in parliament.
