KUALA LUMPUR. PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s RM100 million defamation suit against Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman is set for case management on Feb 25.
The High Court’s deputy registrar, Norazlin Othman, set the date after meeting both parties in chambers yesterday.
Lawyer S.N. Nair filed the suit on May 27 on behalf of Anwar (picture).
Anwar alleges that Anifah made libellous statements against him while abroad. He claims Anifah, at a press conference on May 16 in Washington D.C., had linked his name to an alleged offer (to Anifah) of a top Cabinet post to induce him to defect to the opposition.
The PKR adviser claimed that the words uttered by Anifah that day implied that he was a dishonest person and that he was unfit to hold a public or legislative position.
He said the words also meant that he was unprincipled and corrupt.
Anwar has named Anifah in his personal capacity and as Foreign Minister as well as the Government as defendants.
